A Taste of Typhid C Mark III

Description

And yet again, Hades-or Typhid C-gets completely changed yet again. Aye, the grief of your first project. In any case, the new Hades is more of a venusian-sized planet on the inner edge of the habitable zone and has an atmospheric pressure of more than 2 atmospheres.  It's still very much filled with biomass, but I'm trying to make that more obvious now. The Elitioviam reefs still exist, but now they are composed of purple autotrophs instead of being...filter-feeders or something, I dunno. In this image, I give a tiny taste of the ecosystem. Many life forms on this planet are within the spectrum of omnivory, as there is enough competition around that specializing to eat one food group may be a poor choice.

So the first image depicts one of the new additions to the project, the Unspeakable Shoggoth crawling and slithering towards an unfortunate unnamed arthosaur. The Unspeakable Shoggoth is (one of?) the largest mobile representatives of the shoggoth lineage at 60 feet long. When coalesced in its mobile form, it is the apex predator of the elitoviam reefs, consuming anything that is unfortunate to get in front of its maw. While this image depicts the victim as an Abdominime (ie what we would throw in the animal category), most of the time these eldritch abominations eat ill elitioviams instead. They do this by wrapping their tendrils around the prey and exuding huge amounts of digestive fluids.

To give a bit of an explanation of the shoggoths; they are actually large colonies of imparofungi that come together under specific circumstances. Normally, the imparofungi live separate from one another feeding on organic matter falling from the canopy. But once dry conditions set in, these imparofungi within a certain range will coalesce together to form a mobile form, which can range from small arboreal types to the huge terrestrial ones. The imparofungi will then specialize to have parts that are hardened to act as skin, others will specialize to detect light, and others will specialize for digestion. The colony coordinates its movements via specialized imparofungi that work to send signals through the body.

The second image shows the redone Gelkolo walking through the lower canopy. I repurposed them to look a little more like something semiarboreal and there are some cultural aspects that have changed, but overall I'm going to try to keep the Gelkolo behaving the same. Their "fur" on the neck is actually semipermeable skin that help the Gelkolo and their ilk breath. This "ilk" goes all the way back to the first arthosaurs to walk on land, although there have been some changes and advancements since then. The Gelkolo is gesturing towards a distant jawless relative-although it's about as much of a relative to it as we are to frogs. This is a notable change in the arthosaur evolutionary history, something that'll be expanded later.

So that's it! I'll probably post more stuff on Hades on and off, so be prepped!

Oh man, really cool! I'm interested in these imparofungi... I'm getting bryozoan vibes! Are they "fungus" in the sense that they use hyphae to grow and feed, or are the "fungus" in the sense that they are decomposers?

Also really like the sentient critter up front :D
The head is cool, and so is the neck fur/gills! I want to hear more about these guys!
